![]() He surrenders his life on the run to return to his childhood love, a sport called exy, invented by Sakavic, similar to lacrosse but more violent and far more popular. The series is about a young boy named Neil who is on the run from his murderous father a boy who, in the last eight years, has gone through nearly countless countries and 22 fake names. I love paper books more than most things in this world. For many this last thing might not be an issue – for myself it was a drawback that, for quite some time, hindered my desire to enter into the series. Consequently, it has very simple covers, quite a few grammar mistakes an editor would have caught, and, worst of all, is all available only as e-books. The series, called "All For the Game," was written by Nora Sakavic and self-published. The biggest strength of this story is that the characters and the issues discussed in this book felt real which I really really enjoyed and I’m looking forward to reading the sequels soon.I suppose I should give some explanation as far as what this book actually is. There were a few occasions that had me on the edge of my seat and asking myself: how did that happen? This book deals with a lot of heavy topics ( list of trigger warnings) that may be difficult for some people to read about but it’s still an engaging read. There’s not much action going on but there were some shocking moments. I can tell there are more stories to be told and tragedies to unravel and I can’t wait to find out more.Īlthough the story itself was a bit slow for my liking, I still felt compelled to read on. So little is known about all of these characters and I want to read the rest of the series to explore their lives more.ĭespite few things being known about each character in this story, they all felt fleshed out. Along with Kevin, a former Exy star who broke his hand and is now returning to the game. He’s not a likable character but he’s fun to read about. “Hope was a dangerous, disquieting thing, but he thought perhaps he liked it.”Īndrew is another interesting character, he has complicated relationships with the people around him along with numerous attitude issues. He’s an intriguing character, not just to the readers but also to his new teammates. He feels out of place and tense about staying in the same place for such a long period of time. Neil Josten, the main character, has spent most of his life on the run but is recruited into this dysfunctional Exy team. There’s so much mystery surrounding every character in this book that there’s still lots I don’t know and want to find out. It was when I figured out who everyone was, that I started to properly enjoy this story. It took me awhile to be able to differentiate everyone, I was confused for quite a few chapters. There are so many characters that I was lost at first as to who was who. There’s a wide range of characters in this novel, all well-developed with their own issues and difficulties. And as a result, I was wary as to whether I would enjoy this book but, somehow, I did.Įxy is a large focus of this book however the plot was very character driven. Now, I am not a fan of sports nor have I ever read a book focusing on sports before. ![]() ![]() The Foxhole Court, the first book in a trilogy, focuses on a team who play the fictional sport called Exy, which is similar to lacrosse. Since it’s available as a free to download ebook, I decided to read it. Maybe he’s finally found someone and something worth fighting for.Ī few of my favourite booktubers rave a lot about this book and made me curious as to what it’s all about. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. One of Neil’s new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can’t walk away from him a second time. But Neil’s not the only one with secrets on the team. The team is high profile and he doesn’t need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. He’s short, he’s fast, he’s got a ton of potential-and he’s the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher. Summary: Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team.
